Shadow Hunter uselessness

Post by qxrt » Sat Apr 18, 2009 7:06 pm

Is there anything that can be done to make the SH not so useless? The ultimate is completely useless, not just because most players buy necklace, but because since it's a defensive skill (unlike most of the other ultimates), it screws over the user if he/she tries to depend on it. In contrast, most other ultimates don't rely on the user risking himself/herself, so getting them blocked by a necklace doesn't necessarily screw them over.

Add the fact that serpent wards only work on the level at which they are placed (as opposed to working along the entire vertical length of the lightning graphic) and can't be placed near objectives (which means that enemies can almost always find a way to avoid it with small detours or even just jump over it), that healing wave is slow to the point of uselessness (1 hp every two seconds at best, even if it works on nearby teammates, barely helps at all, not to mention that the healing halo gives away human teammates who are hiding, making the skill even worse than useless because it's better to stay hidden than to heal that extra 5 or so miniscule HP) and that hex is useless because temporarily taking away an enemy's ability for a few seconds is pointless if you have to hit him/her to do it (in which case you'll most likely either kill that enemy or die from him/her), and you have a class that everyone would only play for novelty's sake.

It's frustrating that there's no easy fix to these issues. Back when Big Bad Voodoo was immune to necklace, it was the one ability that made SH worth playing despite the fact that its other skills were largely useless, but now that that's gone, no one plays SH.

Is there anything that can be done to improve the race to be at least on par with the other races? I also feel that the warden is somewhat underpowered compared to the other races, but nowhere near as much as the SH, and that's another topic anyway.

Well, each race has its advantages, but SH falls behind dramatically compared to the other races. I mean, undead gets fast speed, high jump, and vampire, orc gets super nades, auto ankh, and critical hit, human gets extra hp and invisibility, night elf gets extra damage, blood mage gets super armor and banish and phoenix, etc.

My point is, of the races that get powers that can be bought through the items shop, they generally all get powerful (or at least equivalent) versions of their respective items. Shadow hunter gets the equivalent of buying one ring (and who buys only one ring besides people without money?), which in addition gives off a highly visible halo that gives the player away even through thin walls and doors. Sure, the healing wave works on nearby teammates, but in practice, this actually isn't much help at all. Would giving the shadow hunter the equivalent of 5 rings be too much? Rings are a largely long-term healing solution, so even with five rings, the shadow hunter wouldn't last long if it went under open fire (and definitely nowhere close to as long as, say, a human with 145 hp or blood mage with super armor).

And if we got 10 HP left and wanna hide.. the healing waves will get our asses busted ;D
I really hope you guys fix up that race
well for the shadow hunter ability we have a update thing that fixes the looks and the range of it, if it ever gets implemented so they cant jump over it anymore and for the wave tuff luck lol

why dont u just increase the rate of healing?

wards covering the entire vertical length is way too cheap, and is not allowed around objectives because thats cheap too!

the ultimate can be used as offensive, but u have to try ur luck that u dont run into someone who is immune

if u really dont like it just dont play it
