Shadow Hunter uselessness

Is there anything that can be done to make the SH not so useless? The ultimate is completely useless, not just because most players buy necklace, but because since it's a defensive skill (unlike most of the other ultimates), it screws over the user if he/she tries to depend on it. In contrast, most other ultimates don't rely on the user risking himself/herself, so getting them blocked by a necklace doesn't necessarily screw them over.
Add the fact that serpent wards only work on the level at which they are placed (as opposed to working along the entire vertical length of the lightning graphic) and can't be placed near objectives (which means that enemies can almost always find a way to avoid it with small detours or even just jump over it), that healing wave is slow to the point of uselessness (1 hp every two seconds at best, even if it works on nearby teammates, barely helps at all, not to mention that the healing halo gives away human teammates who are hiding, making the skill even worse than useless because it's better to stay hidden than to heal that extra 5 or so miniscule HP) and that hex is useless because temporarily taking away an enemy's ability for a few seconds is pointless if you have to hit him/her to do it (in which case you'll most likely either kill that enemy or die from him/her), and you have a class that everyone would only play for novelty's sake.
It's frustrating that there's no easy fix to these issues. Back when Big Bad Voodoo was immune to necklace, it was the one ability that made SH worth playing despite the fact that its other skills were largely useless, but now that that's gone, no one plays SH.
Is there anything that can be done to improve the race to be at least on par with the other races? I also feel that the warden is somewhat underpowered compared to the other races, but nowhere near as much as the SH, and that's another topic anyway.
