step 3. to get MySQL

my question is why do I need MySQL
and is it free to download and use and is
it really needed

I really do not understand what you are asking because the way you worded your questions was odd. If you are asking if you have to download and use mySQL to save xp by mySQL then yes you download and use mySQL. If you do not want to save by mySQL use vault saving.

Make sure these values look like this in the war3FT.cfg and it will save by vault

sv_sql 0

Mysql is free, correct? Why even choose it over Vault? Is there a benefit for one over the other?

EDIT: Where is the XP saved if you are using a listening server or have a hosted server?
